Congratulations Maia Zann-Roland - GNS Sport Makes A Difference Award Winner
Congratulations to GNS Sport Makes a Difference Award winner, Maia Zann-Roland (#Maia the Mighty), an amazing warrior and a true inspiration! Maia passed away peacefully on the evening of June 17th surrounded by family, friends and lots of love. She fought every step of her journey with strength, courage, determination, and resiliency far beyond what she should possess for her young age of 17. Maia has left those around her in absolute awe to say the least! She faced every challenge and decision practically and even positively, amazing all with her ability to not only accept without complaint, but to remain positive despite every significant challenge she had to work through.
Maia's gymnastics community, especially at the Cobequid Spartans Gymnastics and Trampoline Club, but also at the provincial level, were an incredible support for Maia. People showed an outpouring of love and support that continued to put a smile on Maia's face! Maia's gymnastics coach, Kim Bernard was absolutely amazing! Kim collected a flood of pictures and videos of people showing their love and support by holding #MaiatheMighty signs that they created while sporting Maia's favourite color, blue! The video that Kim created was an absolutely incredible collection of messages to Maia and her family and even included gymnasts using their bodies to spell MAIA's name out on the gym floor inside the shape of a heart that was created by another set of gymnasts. This outpouring of support and the incredible determination that Maia Zann-Roland demonstrated each and every day was nothing short of exceptional. Maia taught us all so much and we are pleased that she was able to accept this award on June16th.
