Nova Scotia Gymnasts Win 18 Medals at Canadian Championships
Edmonton, AB – Nova Scotia men captured 13 medals and women captured 5 at the Canadian Gymnastics and Trampoline Championships held recently in Edmonton, AB. The Nova Scotia National Open Men’s Team made history by capturing the first ever team title in this category finishing ahead of Ontario and Quebec. The Gold medal winning National Open team was made up of Kahlil Benjamin (Halifax, NS), Stephen Clouter (Lawrencetown, NS), William Jackson (Halifax, NS), Jeremy Sutherland (Middle Musquodoboit, NS), Miguel Hernandez (Halifax, NS), Dujon Holness (Halifax, NS) and Ben McCarthy (Fall River, NS). Kahlil Benjamin also captured Gold in All Around and Floor, Silver on Rings and Bronze on Pommels to bring his total medal count to 5. Stephen Clouter captured Gold on High Bar, Silver on Pommels and Bronze in the All Around to round out his medal count.
Alex Watters (Williamswood, NS) captured 2 medals in the Junior category winning Silver on Pommels and Bronze on High Bar. In the men’s Novice division, the NS Novice Team captured the Bronze medal and Vincent D’Entremont (Hebbville, NS) finished with a Bronze medal on Vault. William Black (Halifax, NS) won Gold on Vault in the men’s Senior category.
On the women’s side, Ellie Black (Halifax, NS) captured 4 medals in the Women’s Senior category. Ellie won Gold on Floor, Silver on Beam and All Around and Bronze on Vault. Enya Pouliot (Bedford, NS) won Silver on Vault in the women’s Junior category.
Nova Scotia had a record number of 34 athletes competing in 3 disciplines (women's artistic gymnastics, men's artistic gymnastics and Trampoline & Tumbling) throughout the 5 day event.
