Nova Scotia Gymnasts Win Record 21 Medals at Canadian Championships

Monday, June 1, 2015 - 1pm

Gatineau, QC - Ellie Black (Halifax, NS) captured 2 Gold medals and 2 Silver medals at the Canadian Gymnastics Championships in Gatineau this past week.  She was first All Around in Senior for the third consecutive year and she won Gold in event finals on beam and silver on uneven bars and floor. In other women’s competition, Enya Pouliot (Bedford, NS) also had a strong showing winning 3 silver medals in the National Novice High Performance category on Beam, Floor and All Around.

In men’s competition, Hugh Smith (Dartmouth, NS) won a bronze medal in the Senior All Around category.  Also medaling in the Senior category was Evan Cruz (Halifax, NS) who won Silver on Pommels.  In the Junior category, William Black (Halifax, NS) won Gold on Vault and Bronze on Floor and in Novice, Alex Watters (Williamswood, NS) captured a Silver medal on Rings.

In the Men’s National Open category, the team won the Bronze medal and were only 0.3 points away from Silver.  The team consisted of Stephen Clouter (Lawrencetown, NS), Kahlil Benjamin (Halifax, NS), Ben McCarthy (Fall River, NS), Ryan Lowe (Westphal, NS), Zach Doucet (Halifax, NS), Blair Miller (Halifax, NS) and Miguel Hernandez (Halifax, NS).  Clouter also won Gold on Pommels, Parallel Bars, High Bar and Silver All Around and on Floor and Benjamin won Gold on Floor and Bronze on Vault and Parallel Bars.

Nova Scotia had a total of 28 athletes compete in the 5 day event in women's and men's artistic gymnastics.
