Nova Scotia will Host Canada at Elite Canada Gymnastics Championships
Halifax has been selected as the host city for the 2017 Elite Canada Artistic Gymnastics Competition. The competition will be hosted by Gymnastics Nova Scotia, Halifax Alta Gymnastics Club, TAISO Gymnastics Training Centre, and Titan’s Gymnastics and Trampoline Club and will be held at the Canada Games Centre from February 2nd to 5th, 2017. Nova Scotia successfully hosted the Elite Canada Competition in 2016 for the first time, in front of sold out crowds of approximately 750 people per day.
Elite Canada is one of the primary meets at which national team status is determined and brings together the top athletes from across Canada from the novice, junior, and senior categories. In men’s artistic gymnastics the event will help to finalize the national teams for the coming season and will determine Sport Canada AAP carding status of the senior team. In women’s artistic gymnastics, gymnasts in the novice, junior, and senior categories will seek qualification for High Performance status, which gives them the right to compete in those categories at Canadian Championships and to be eligible to be considered for national teams and potential international assignments.
Nova Scotia has made its mark on the national scene in recent years, by producing a number of Canada’s top gymnasts. This is a wonderful opportunity for Nova Scotians to see the country's top talent, in their own province, including the National Team and two-time Olympian Ellie Black.
