Nova Scotian Kai Dwyer wins Gold at Canada Cup

Sunday, March 20, 2016 - 10pm

Kamloops, BCKai Dwyer (Fall River, NS) captured a Gold Medal today in Double Mini Trampoline in the Level 6 Espoir (U17) category at the Canada Cup competition in Kamloops, BC.  Dwyer had a total of 133.00 points to take first place over Owen Armstrong from Flip City Gymnastics (Langley, BC) who had 132.10 points and Tyler Champagne of the Panthers Gymnastics Club (Winnipeg, MB) with 131.60 points.  Kai trains out of Titans Gymnastics and Trampoline Club in Dartmouth, NS under coach, Dann McEntee.   Dwyer also placed 9th in the Trampoline competition today. 

Kai hit the required scores on both trampoline and Double Mini Trampoline to move in to the Junior level category and he also hit the score needed to represent Canada at the Indo Pacific Championships in New Zealand this October. The Canadian team will be named after the Canadian National Championships in Edmonton this June.

The purpose of the Canada Cup competition is:

  • to identify Junior and Senior athletes for the competitive year and to rank athletes as part of the system to have access to National team status and Sport Canada Athlete Assistance Program (AAP Carding- Trampoline).
  • First domestic trial for 2016 Olympic Games (Trampoline Senior)
  • First trial for Indo-Pacific Championships Team selection (all events)
